The Wild Heart of Florida‹Florida Writers on Florida Wildlands

by Jeff Ripple

The Wild Heart of Florida‹Florida Writers on Florida Wildlands is a compilation of nearly twenty creative essays by some of the state's most talented writers celebrating the natural heritage of Florida. Included are offerings from Carl Hiaasen, Randy Wayne White, Lola Haskins, Patrick Smith, Jeff Ripple, Susan Cerulean, and others. Many of the areas extolled in this volume were purchased through Florida's Preservation 2000, considered the nation's leading land acquisition program, including rare scrub on the Lake Wales Ridge, the beach and dunes of the Panhandle's Topsail Hill, old-growth pinelands in Goethe State Forest, Brooker Creek near the urban heart of Tampa, and fragile tropical hammocks and backcountry waters in the Florida Keys. The essays are stories of what Floridians have lost and found and could still lose again.
